One Thing

Saturday was the Enable Men's Conference at Birmingham Christian Centre, it was a really good challenging day, and even better I got to see Dave!

Dave has already started blogging about some of the theme's which were covered by the speaker, Mark Stibbe.

Mark mentioned the 'Hedgehog Concept', which goes like this:

"The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing."

Applied to the Christian life, it's talking about the 'one thing' which God has created you to do. We all have a calling, and I suppose a primary area of gifting, which equips us to do this one thing, this God given purpose, better than anyone else.

I don't think there's anything wrong with being a 'good all rounder' in some ways, it's great if you can put your hand to a number of different things and do them well, but that's not the same as finding your purpose, or your primary passion. Doing lots of things satisfactorily is OK, but doing one thing with excellence is better.

I've been thinking about this in relation to my own life, and what my primary passion and purpose might be. What is my 'one thing'?

Right now, I'm not really sure. I have a few clues, a number of possibilities, but I can't say for sure what my 'one thing' is.

What that means is that I need to pray and seek God about my purpose. I know God created me and has a plan and purpose for me, and so I am going to be seeking Him for those things.

How about you? What's your 'one thing'? What's your passion?
